Major Solar Energy Advantages

By George Smith

The sun is the source and the sustaining force for life on earth. All sources of energy on earth, whether renewable or non-renewable, stem at some point, from the direct output of the sun's light and heat. The foremost advantage of solar power is that it is abundant. One of the facts about energy from the sun is that it is available to our earth free of cost and is renewable. The light and heat generated from the sun is essential for our existence. Other advantages of the sun's power is that it can be shared to one and all and not like other resources limited to some specific places on earth.

Solar energy's biggest advantage is that it is the best renewable source of power ever known to man. The advantages of solar energy are enumerated below:

Solar Energy is abundant, sustainable and free:

The most important fact about solar is that it is abundant. For all practical purposes, the sun will be with us until the end of the World. In other words, it will be with us until the end of mankind. The other crucial fact about power from the sun is that no one needs to pay a penny to take advantage of this raw power source as it is completely free. As the sun's power is totally natural, it does not render any dangerous byproducts that could affect other living or non-living things on earth. It is a sustainable power source. These three advantages of solar power make it entirely distinct from other sources of energy.

Solar Energy is renewable, clean, and requires minimal maintenance:

Solar energy is directly produced from the sun. It is a clean energy source. It does not require burning as do fossil fuels to produce the heat and light and as a result does not release toxic materials into the environment. The sun, the largest star in our solar system, has been in existence for over 4 billion years and will be with us to provide light and heat for another estimated 4 billion years. So, solar energy is a source of renewable energy. It is a energy source which will be there forever to supply energy to mankind. Since man is not required to perform any process to take advantage of this energy source, it requires minimal maintenance.

Solar Energy mixes well with other energy sources:

One fact about solar is that it is possible to exchange the sun's power into other forms of power which then can be deployed for further use. Technology, including innovations in battery storage, has allowed possible use of integrating this form of power with other sources of energy together to generate electricity. This is very advantageous particularly when there is a problem to capture sunlight due to weather conditions or at night. The processes do not stop when the sun is not available. Similarly, when the sun shines, the process can be optimized sot that the use of solar power is maximized and thereby maximize savings as well.
